The collection consists of materials relating to slaves and slavery in Georgia. The materials include estate appraisals (1802, 1812), an inventory (1812), and a property list (1802); a bill documenting items purchased for slaves' use (1834); and a letter (1856) from Linton Stephens in Sparta (Ga.). The appraisals and property list give the slaves' name and value. The letter (16 Dec. 1856) lists slaves Linton has for sale including their price, name, and age and discusses the health of several slaves.

Linton Hodges Stephens (1823-1872), legislator and lawyer, was born in Wilkes County, Georgia. He later dropped the use of his middle name.
